Poppy Memorial at the Tower of London (2014)

Back

They ask me where I’ve been,
And what I’ve done and seen.
But what can I reply
Who know it wasn’t I,
But someone just like me,
Who went across the sea
And with my head and hands
Killed men in foreign lands…
Though I must bear the blame,
Because he bore my name.

Our evolving installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red, marked the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Created by artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, 888,246 ceramic poppies progressively filled the Towerโ€™s famous moat between July to November 2014.
