Stonehenge on a cold, rainy day

Stonehenge’s location on the Salisbury Plain adds to its eerie sense of mystery. We visited on a windy and rainy autumn day. While uncomfortable, I felt that the miserable weather was somehow appropriate — deepening the loneliness of the ancient stones.

The wind blew rain into my face and camera, and I had to keep stopping to towel the lens off. The stones themselves are smaller than people might expect, and mere mortals like us aren’t allowed to get close enough to get impressive shots like those used in promotional material.
